MATT KINNEY
1970 born in Georgetown, Massachusettes, USA
Matthew Sinclair Kinney attended Pratt Institute and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston where he earned a diploma in 1998. He currently lives and works in Beacon, New York.
Kinney started his sculpture career in the Hudson Valley. Working a day job in construction/ home renovation, he acquired practical skills and discovered a bond between artist, wood and the tools used. His latest and ongoing body of work - entitled “Sacred Objects” - is about this relationship, that the function of the tool disappears to become an object of “nothingness”.
