Theresa Kim made her debut on the Korean photography scene in 1968 when she received the Silver Prize for her black and white photography in the 3rd Dong-A International Photo Salon. In 1970 and 1972 she had two solo exhibitions "The Secret Garden" and "Wind”. In 1972 she immigrated to the US with her husband and son, and after a year in Chicago she moved to New York. While attending English classes at NYU she wondered around the Village and Washington Square Park. Able to communicate with a smile and a camera in hand she began to photograph the park.

She navigated the counterculture of the 1970s without fear or prejudice, and her photographs encompass a time and its spectacle. Theresa Kim captured part of Washington Square Park that is unreal for most and a faint memory for others.

This exhibition is a selection of photos selected by Susie Lim with Theresa Kim that best captures her vision of the Washington Park. The book is document of the place with a focus on the 70s and thereafter, and a time after 9/11, a place of change and a place to gather
